HORSES OF THE MOUNTAINS

Among Caucasian mountains live Karachay people, proud nation with strong and special traditions. Horses for many centuries plays a big role in their everyday life. Living in severe nature conditions of mountain area, Karachay needed reliable and strong companion for handling the cattle and traveling across cliffs and hills of their region. And Karachay horse became that ideal helper and a friend. Till nowadays these horses kept traditionally: mainly in herds, which migrate up high in the mountains in summer season and go down to the valley when the first snow lies on the mountain tops.
